Are dental implants painful?
The surgery is performed under anaesthesia, ensuring a painless process. However, some discomfort and gum ache may occur afterward, typically lasting 24-48 hours and often described as a dull ache around the implant. Many patients resume work the next day.

Implant Options for Everyone
When it comes to implants, we believe in taking all of the stress out of your treatment.
We offer a full range of implant treatments, as well as bone regeneration for patients who do not yet have sufficient jawbone density for implant placement. We believe in an ‘all under one roof’ approach, which means meeting all your implant-based needs, without having to refer our patients elsewhere for any stage of the implant journey.
Types of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Implants
Tooth replacement for 1 or 2 missing teeth. This implant protocol involves the use of an implant-supported crown, which sits over the top of the implant once it has healed within the jaw.
All On 4/6 Dental Implants
We also offer the pioneering All-on-4/6 ‘Teeth in a Day’ implant system, which allows your dentist to place a temporary set of teeth on the day of your implant surgery. This immediate placement of temporary teeth (whilst the jaw heals post-surgery) is a huge benefit for patients, who do not have to endure several months without a natural-looking and functional set of teeth. Your temporary teeth are replaced with a long-term bridge or denture once the jaw has healed.
Implant-supported Dentures
If you don’t like the idea of living with dentures that move around in your mouth at inopportune moments, implant-supported dentures are a fantastic option. Your dentist here at Dental on the Banks can design a set of full or partial dentures that are anchored into the jawbone with implants, preventing any movement. Implant-supported dentures can be easily removed for cleaning.
Implant-supported Bridge
Conventional bridges can be secured into the jaw using implants. The presence of implants provides additional strength and stability compared with a conventional bridge. Implant-supported bridges are a fixed solution. Unlike implant-supported dentures, they and cannot be removed by you at home.
Our implant dentists offer the option of a Full Arch Bridge (10-12 units) which replaces a missing row of teeth. 4-6 implants are used in each jaw to achieve this, reducing the need for a single implant per tooth. This streamlines the treatment time and is more cost-effective than using individual implants per tooth, reducing the overall fee for patients.
Pre-implant Procedure
For those considering dental implants, it’s essential to understand that a robust foundation of healthy gums is crucial for successful treatment. Without adequate gum health, the risk of implant failure rises significantly. Therefore, it’s imperative to ensure that your oral environment is stable and in good condition before undergoing the procedure.

Getting a Dental Implant – Procedure
A full consultation is undertaken prior to beginning treatment. This is then followed by:
A CBCT and examination scan to assess your soft tissues, teeth, and jawbone. This allows us to identify any failing teeth that require pre-implant extraction.
Implant surgery to place the implants. Any failing teeth are extracted during this surgery.
Healing period of several months. This is when the body invites the implant as if it were a natural entity within the jaw – this process is called Osseointegration and has a 95% + success rate.
Placement of long-term custom crown, dentures, or bridge over the implants.

They were able to completely re-do my composite bonding to get my teeth looking exactly as I had wanted them to! I went in disappointed with the look of my teeth and after just one appointment I was leaving with a smile I couldn’t wait to show off! With such a beautiful clinic and amazing and friendly team of staff, I now want to go here for anything to do with my teeth going forward. Thank you!

I couldn’t have picked a better place to have my Invisalign journey done. All of the staff are so kind and thoughtful and even take the time to get to know you whilst having catchups each session. I chose dental on the banks Solely because of the reputation and reviews they came highly recommended by a very good client on mine who also lives in Sandbanks. I have chosen to have full implants. My teeth are crooked and I hated my smile. Dr George was great with his team. I would highly recommend this Dentist they contact me very frequently to make sure the healing process is going well and I feel like I have the support I need which I wouldn’t have had if I would’ve gone to Turkey so I would highly recommend them to one of the banks for your implants.
I had a gum graft procedure with Dr George, and as scary as that sounds, it was such a smooth process. Everything was well explained, I felt completely at ease, and honestly didn’t feel a thing due to the local anaesthetic. Looking forward to the next steps in my treatment with Invisalign
Cannot recommend Dental On the Banks highly enough! Everyone there is always so welcoming, professional and kind. Without doubt the best dental care I’ve ever received and we gladly travel further to get them since moving house. The extra distance is nothing when the care is so great. I had an awful experience with another dentist in Winton who missed the fact I needed a filling meaning I was left in pain for months and they became annoyed that I had to bring my son with me. Dental on the Banks sorted everything for me and is always so accommodating of my young children. I wouldn’t go anywhere else ever again.
Always a great service at DOTB. I have had wisdom tooth removal, whitening and hygienist services here. You feel really looked after and they take their time with you to make sure you are comfortable the whole time (the most gentle hygienist ever!). My first appointment. Staff is friendly. Liberty, the treatment coordinator is very patient, listening to my long history and concerns, explaining the treatment plan clearly. She answered all my queries and put me at ease. And promptly emailed me the treatment plan, etc by the time I got home.

So today I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed under the care of Dr George & his lovely nurse…let’s just say I wouldn’t hesitate if I needed to have another one done. So gentle, did what they needed to do in a calm, controlled atmosphere, pain relief offered before the procedure with steroids to help reduce pain & inflammation, antibiotics provided if needed. A really good experience with something I was dreading. Highly recommend for all your dental needs! 🤩

An absolutely beautiful place. It's more like visiting a spa than a dentist but more importantly than the beautiful aesthetics was the service I received from the staff there. The lady who talked me through the whole process of Invisalign was an absolute delight, a consummate professional and very informative and patient with all my endless questions. Although the location is a bit out of the way for someone who relies on public transport I have no doubt in my mind that if I do decide to go ahead I will go nowhere else. A lof of businesses could learn a lot from this company about outstanding customer service because that is definitely what I received. Friendly and helpful receptionists. Although treatment for implants took over a year due to some complex problems, the results are good. Both the implants and the crowns are comfortable and match the rest of my teeth. Good painstaking work.I recommend this practice.
