As you know our world has somewhat changed in the past month. We are currently in a Pandemic with the government imposing a lockdown in order to flatten the curve of incidence of this infection.

School and non-essential places of work have closed. Dental practices have also had to close in order to prevent the spread of this infection.

A lot of our staff including Dentists and Specialists have been or will be redeployed to positions within the NHS in the near future as we move towards the peak in order to keep the NHS working.

With all the tragic things that are happening in the world as a result of the corona virus, now might seem like an unusual time to talk about being positive. Yet staying positive is vital in order to be able to successfully cope with the changes around us.

As a Dental practice we felt that it was the time for us to be proactive about creating small moments of happiness in our days as well as our patients and friends of our practice.

So this week we asked our Therapist Megan to share some tips about maintaining good oral hygiene.

We hope that you find it useful.

Megan’s Oral Hygiene Tips during Lockdown:

    1. Brush with an electric toothbrush-Ensure bristles are angled towards your gums with part of the bristles on the area where the teeth meet the gums.
    2. Ensure that the toothpaste that you are using contains Flouride.
    3. During this Pandemic, if you have been unwell, change the toothbrush head as soon as you feel better, otherwise change the toothbrush head every 3 months.
    4. Use floss or some type of inter dental cleaning appliance between your teeth, twice a day.
    5. The more frequent intake of food as we are all at home currently will lead to more cavities developing. Try to stick to 5 meals a day-a breakfast, midmorning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack and dinner. The grazing on foods, especially sweets cancontribute to dental decay.
